Riceboro’s Historic Baptismal Trail is now completed. Residents and local officials gathered together for the ribbon cutting of the trail. They then had an opportunity to walk along the trail and learn about native plants, see the historic baptismal pool and “round hole.”

The baptismal pool dates back to the 1840s, where African-American slaves were baptized by leaders of their congregation. Baptisms continued there until the early 1940s. The “round hole” was used by locals for fishing, swimming and hunting. The trail is seen as a great opportunity for youth to learn more about the history of Riceboro.
