The ribbon was cut for the new Oglethorpe Square Shopping Center and customers wasted no time shopping.

People went in and out of the opened stores as county officials gave remarks about the development of the center and what it means for the area.

As of Friday Dick’s Sporting Goods, LongHorn Steakhouse, Hobby Lobby and PetSmart were open. TJ Maxx is schedules to open Sunday and Hobby Lobby will have its grand opening Monday.

Kenneth Howard, executive director of the Hinesville Development Authority, said the shopping center developed due to "progressive leadership" and called it a “win-win situation for Liberty and surrounding areas.”

Justin McCartney, chairman of the Hinesville Development Authority, said the vision statement of HDA is to “create an environment where people are drawn to Hinesville” and Oglethorpe Square will help achieve that.
