Ricefest deadlines near
Riceboro City hall

The city of Riceboro will celebrate its 11th annual RiceFest from Nov. 4-11. Festival will include food, music and history of the Gullah/Geechee people whose ancestors once worked on rice plantations in Liberty County.

"We work hard to make it bigger and better every year with more history, food and live bands," said Councilmember Chris Stacy, festival chairman. "We love our small town and want people to see great things happening in Riceboro and give them something to do at home that’s fun."

This year’s theme is "Hidden Figures in Riceboro." Activities will highlight Riceboro citizens who have contributed to the community at the following 2017 events:

•Liberty RiceFest Pageant at 1 p.m. Nov. 4.

•RiceFest Homecoming at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 featuring Special Formula Band.

•RiceFest festival starting at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 with the RiceFest Parade and ending with a performance by Brick.

Other activities include a youth essay contest and a rice cook-off competition. The deadline to submit an entry to the essay contest is Oct. 16. The deadline to enter the rice cook-off competition is Oct. 27. For more information, visit http://www.riceborogaricefest.com or call Stacy at 912-695-0481.
