Spring is the time for nominating, brightening and more cleaning

Spring is such a lovely time of the year. The flowers and green grass and budding trees really make up for the brown, bare, dormant look of winter.
One benefit of all these blooms and greenery is that they make our homes and neighborhoods and street much prettier. So, spring is a great time to nominate some lovely businesses for our quarterly business awards — the Win-dex Awards. Our business community plays an important role in having a clean, attractive place in which to live, work and play. We recognize the effort that our local businesses make by having our quarterly awards.
In the last eight years, the Win-dex Awards have recognized almost 70 businesses that made the extra effort to present attractive, inviting appearances. The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce and Keep Liberty Beautiful sponsor the recognition program.
We will accept nominations through March 31. In selecting a business, think about these points: Are areas like the building clean and are the sidewalks and frontage clean and litter-free? What about what about the parking area? Is the area landscaped and the grass mowed? Does it have an inviting entrance?
When we are comparing nominations, we also consider whether these businesses are active in programs that promote a clean community, like Adopt Liberty and municipal cleanups.
Nomination forms are available at the KLB office, 9397 E. Oglethorpe Highway in Midway, or at the chamber office, 425 W. Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville. But the easiest way is to email us your nomination, including the business’ location and the reason you think it deserves an award, to klcb@coastalnow.net.

Brighten Your Business
We often have a number of businesses say that participating in Great American Cleanup events in the spring is hard or impossible because these volunteer events are normally held on Saturdays, which are their busiest retail days.
This year, we are offering Brighten Your Business, an opportunity for local businesses to have their own mini-cleanup events at their locations on a day during the week of their city’s cleanup.
Brighten Your Business is as easy as 1, 2, 3:
1. Pick a date the week before your city’s cleanup day (listed below)
2. Contact KLB to confirm and to borrow any cleanup supplies that you may need (litter reachers, safety vests, work gloves and trash bags)
3. Send us your info — date, who participated and the chosen activity — and a photo we can share on Facebook and our website.
Participating businesses also will be recognized in the Coastal Courier and at KLB’s annual Volunteer Appreciation on May 28, as well as being eligible for the Win-dex Awards.
