Standoff in Long County ends in arrest
Man arrested around 10:15 p.m.
LL 57 stil closed

A man who shut down a portion of Highway 57 in Long County for several hours after telling authorities he had explosives strapped to his body has reportedly been arrested.

The man, who has not been identified, was seen standing on the heavily traveled highway as members of bomb disposal teams from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Fort Stewart tried to reason with him.

The standoff about four miles east of Ludowici began sometime around noon and has continued through the evening and into the night. A member of the Wayne County Emergency Management Office was seen driving flood lights to the scene before dusk.

It’s unclear whether the man had explosives or what prompted his actions.
