A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault in the Wednesday night shooting that killed one man and injured another in a mobile home on Leroy Coffer Highway in the Fleming community.
Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jeff Hein confirmed that the teenager had been taken into custody, but authorities did not release the suspect’s name.
The 16-year-old was first questioned in connection with the incident after he was found standing in a neighbor’s yard near the scene of the shooting. An unidentified witness reportedly told officials who responded to the call at about 7:22 p.m. Wednesday that the teen was in the residence at the time of the shooting.
The teen was questioned at the detectives’ office in the Liberty County Regional Jail and declared a person of interest. He was arrested and charged Friday.
Joshua Moore, 25, of Freedman Grove Road, was killed in the shooting at 5823 Leroy Coffer Highway when he was struck in the back by two bullets.
Bobby Phillips, 57, who lives at the residence, was shot in the back shoulder. He was treated for his wounds by emergency medical personnel on the scene and transported by ambulance to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah where he is listed in stable condition.
