Qualifying concluded last week in Long County for the upcoming general primary and election. After all the paperwork had been turned in, it was discovered that three more candidates had tossed their hats into the ring.
In a change from the now-invalid July 31, 2012, election, all of the commissioners face opposition. Walt Pelton, Willie Thompson and Kent Hall are seeking seats. Pelton and Thompson will challenge 3rd District Commissioner Andy Fuller, who was unopposed previously. Hall will challenge Clifton DeLoach, who also was unopposed. All of the commission candidates qualified as Democrats.  The general primary is March 12, and the general election  is May 7.
In the nonpartisan board of education races, all the candidates who previously were unopposed remained unopposed, and all of the contested races remained the same.
