Hinesville is about to get another traffic light.

A new signal on West Oglethorpe Highway at Meloney Drive has been installed and began operating in “flash” mode Thursday, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

GDOT announced in a news release issued Thursday evening that the traffic signal would be operational by Tuesday, weather permitting. But the weather did not permit.

So the activation of the new traffic light has been delayed until Tuesday, Aug. 11, GDOT said in an updated release issued Monday.

The intersection is where a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market is being built. For now, construction cones block access to Meloney Drive from West Oglethorpe Highway, and the stretch of Oglethorpe immediately around Meloney is considered a construction zone.

The other Neighborhood Market is slated to be built on East Oglethorpe Highway near Gen. Screven Way.
