Two controlled burns on post today

Fort Stewart Forestry Branch is burning about 900 acres in the northwest part of the post today, according to a news release from Fort Stewart's public affairs office.

The controlled burns of underbrush includes two areas:

1. 306 acres 17 miles west northwest of the cantonment area and seven miles WNW of Taylor Creek fire tower.

2. 597 acres 14 miles WNW of the cantonment area and three miles NW of Taylor Creek fire tower.

Officials estimate flames will not be visible from Highway 144W. Winds are predicted to be out of the east at 8-12 mph, so Liberty County  should not see the smoke. It could, however, blow into the Glennville area.
