Authorities are investigating a “verbal threat made to” Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Ludowici around noon Thursday, according to a press release sent Thursday night.

The release, from Liberty Regional Medical Center Director of Public Relations Rene Harwell, said “law enforcement was immediately notified and they are in the process of investigating the threat.”

Harwell said the threat was made by phone. The first call was made around noon, and several similar calls were later made to the facility and answered by different staff members. The threat was directed against the nursing home.

Harwell said Long County law enforcement is providing “extra security measures for our residents and staff at the nursing home.”

The release said local law enforcement has increased its presence at the nursing home with “active patrols in and/or around the facility.”

It also noted residents and workers at the facility have not been harmed.

“At this time no actual incident has occurred and the residents and staff of Coastal manor are safe,” the release said.
