Emergency personnel at the scene of a drowning Saturday in Liberty County.

A man drowned late Saturday in a pond off Williams Road in Hinesville.

According to Liberty County Sheriff's Office Detective Michaeal Kent, family members said Keith Selders, 29, was swimming between two docks on the pond when he complained he was tired, went under and didn't resurface.

Attempts by family members to rescue him were unsuccessful, Kent said.

Liberty County Fire Chief Brian Darby said he was called around 6 p.m. and arrived about five minutes later. Darby said he went into the water trying to find the man, but was unsuccessful.

A neighbor, Mike  Puricelli, heard the commotion and grabbed his scuba gear to help Darby try to find Selders and rescue him.

The efforts were unsuccessful and the Wayne County Underwater Rescue Team was called in to assist in recovering Selders' body.
