A head-on collision took the lives of a married couple Friday on Highway 17 in Liberty County.

A South Carolina couple was killed in a head-on collision Friday night on Highway 17 in Liberty County.

The victims, Robert Neumann, 72, and Carol Neumann, 72, of Mount Pleasant, were driving north on 17 in a 2006 Toyota Prius around 7:30 p.m. near mile marker when the car was hit by a Ford F-150 driven by Thomas Strzepek. 69, of Pennsylvania, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Markus White, who said Strzepek failed to maintain his lane.

The Neumanns were pronounced dead at the scene.

Strzepek and his wife, Judy Strzepek, 66 were both taken to Memorial Health Medical Center in Savannah with unknown injuries.

The GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating.
