Walthourville City Councilwoman Luciria Luckey Lovette recently was elected to the board of directors for the Georgia Municipal Association during the association’s annual meeting in Savannah.
Lovette will serve as president of GMA’s 12th District, which includes cities in Screven, Bulloch, Effingham, Chatham, Bryan, Liberty, McIntosh, Glynn and Camden counties.
“We are pleased to have Councilmember Lovette taking on this leadership position,” GMA Executive Director Lamar Norton said. “She’s well respected by her colleagues, and I’m sure she’ll provide great leadership to the cities in her district.”
Also during the GMA’s 80th annual convention, Lovette received the Georgia Municipal Training Institute’s Certificate of Distinction.
The institute, a cooperative effort of the GMA and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, provides a series of training opportunities for elected city officials. To receive a certificate of distinction, a city official must complete a minimum of 204 units of credit, including 12 required courses at the Robert E. Knox Jr. Municipal Leadership Institute. The training program consists of a series of more than 40 six-unit courses.
The certificate of distinction is the highest level of Georgia Municipal Association training certification.
“This is an outstanding achievement,” Norton said. “We commend Councilmember Lovette for this accomplishment and for the dedication she’s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.”
