MEMPHIS -- Members of the Bryan- Liberty Counties Chapter of Top Teens of America and Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., made their presence known at the Top Ladies of Distinction Area IV 40th (Jubilee) Virtual Educational/Leadership Conference, hosted by the Memphis, Tennessee, Chapter, March 18– 22, 2022.
Teens Victoria Myles, LeJon Crawford, Shawn Johnson, Nyla Parker, Veniece Blount, James Luckey, Ebony Williams, Khaden Polite, Makayla Gresham and Dalisha Caldwell attended the March event, along with 21 local members of BLCTLOD, Inc. The Ladies and teens participated in a myriad of educational and leadership activities such as literary and essay competitions, finance workshops and virtual college tours. Teens Gresham and Lucky represented their chapter as Mr. and Miss Top Teen 2022.
Makayla Gresham was an eighth grader at Oglethorpe Charter School at the time of the event. She serves as treasurer for the Bryan-Liberty Chapter and Sickle Cell Awareness chair for Area IV Top Teens of America. She enjoys cooking and singing, and she aspires to become a chef or to work with adults and children with disabilities in her near future.
She is very active within her school and community. At her school, she was part of the Titan Ambassador leadership organization, FBLA, student council and chorus and was a peer mediator. She is a member and president of the Savannah Youth Council and the Rhoers Club and of Junior 4-H. She also volunteers with political campaigns.
Gresham’s favorite quote is, “Success is not about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”
Mr. Top Teen James V. Luckey was an eighth grader at Lewis Frasier Middle School at the time of the event. Luckey enjoys playing trumpet in the band and is currently an honor roll student and a member of the junior varsity golf team at Bradwell Institute. James serves as second vice president of the Bryan-Liberty Chapter and executive officer for Area IV Top Teens of America. He aspires to one day become a gaming engineer.
Luckey is an active member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church’s youth department, where he is junior usher. His favorite verse of Scripture is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me.”
The recipients of other awards and recognitions include Victoria Myles, third place for Outstanding Top Teen President for Area IV; Lady Nicole Williams, Leading Lady Hall of Fame nominee for Area IV; Lady Cherisse R. Johnson, Top Lady of the Year for Bryan-Liberty Counties Chapter; and Lord Jarvis D. Johnson Sr., was Lord of the Year.
Bryan-Liberty Counties Chapter was recognized as a Five Star Diamond Chapter that has gone above and beyond for its service to the community.
