Ludowici Mayor Dies
Ludowici Mayor James Fuller

Ludowici Mayor James Fuller, a Korean war veteran and longtime public servant, died Friday at Coastal Manor.

Fuller, 83, was in his second term as mayor. He also served as a city council member, police officer, police chief and water superintendent.

Long County commissioner Mike Riddle said Friday he recently visited the ailing Fuller in the hospital.

“You would think that he would want to talk about something else,” Riddle said. “But every word he said to me was about Ludowici, and what the city council and the commissioners needed to do for the city. I finally said, ‘James don’t worry about all of that, I came down here to see you, not worry about politics. Then James kind of leaned up a little bit, and said Mike I won’t ever get tired of talking about Ludowici and doing what I can for the people there. In one sentence that summed up Mayor James Fuller,” Riddle said.
