Man killed by vehicle while attempting to flee from police

A man who was attempting to flee from police after a traffic stop was killed when he crossed a four lane highway in Bryan County shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol Trooper Seth Strickland, a Liberty County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 17 just inside the Liberty/Bryan County Line not far from Leroy Coffer Highway. 

The passenger jumped out of the vehicle after it came to a stop. He ran across the four lane highway. An oncoming car traveling in the southbound lane struck him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that struck the fleeing man was taken to Winn Army Community Hospital on Fort Stewart with unknown injuries.
