Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas joined members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6602 Tuesday to celebrate the group's upcoming Buddy Poppies fundraiser.
The mayor signed a proclamation recognizing Buddy Poppy Day in Hinesville, a nod to the VFW's yearly poppy sale that raises money to assist disabled and needy veterans, as well as widows and orphans of deceased veterans.
This year's event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 in the parking lot of three separate locations, Wal-Mart, Kroger and Food Lion.
