Liberty County Commission Chairman John McIver is starting his last term in office.

At a ceremony marking the beginning of current terms for officials, he announced he would not seek re-election in four years.

McIver was elected mayor of Riceboro in 1978 and served 21 years. He was then elected commission chairman.

After his current four-year term as Liberty County Commission Chairman is complete, ending a 10-year stint on the Commission, he will step down.

“This will be my last term serving in public office,” McIver said. “I will go away and enjoy my grandkids.”
