17,000 pounds of cheese for Super Bowl

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 4, 2011 - Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support will help to add to this year's Super Bowl experience for deployed service members by providing U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan all the wings, pizza and chili they can handle.

As deployed troops in remote locations watch the Steelers and Packers square off, they can feast on french fries, jalapeno poppers with cheddar and cream cheese, chicken wings, onion rings and nonalcoholic beer.

"We cannot do enough to say thank you to our deployed men and women in uniform sacrificing and serving to protect our way of life here in America," said Richard Ellis, acting commander of DLA Troop Support. "It is our pleasure and honor to serve them up some familiar fare so they can have a full Super Bowl experience before they continue on their mission."

For service members in Iraq, DLA Troop Support is providing:

-- 17,580 pounds of mozzarella cheese sticks;

-- 11,712 pounds of jalapeno poppers with cream cheese;

-- 11,712 pounds of breaded jalapeno poppers with cheddar cheese;

-- 915 cases of plain, ranch and pizza flavored chicken mini-snackers;

-- 5,268 four-cheese pizzas;

-- 8,784 supreme pizzas;

-- 8,784 pepperoni pizzas;

-- 146,400 beef meatballs;

-- 79,080 turkey wings;

-- 1,042 gallons of beef chili;

-- 60,040 pounds of breaded chicken wings;

-- 60,040 pounds of unbreaded, jumbo, hot and spicy Buffalo chicken wings; and

-- 35,160 pounds of potato wedges.

Troops in Afghanistan will enjoy:

-- 4,800 pounds of mozzarella cheese sticks;

-- 4,000 pounds of jalapeno poppers with cream cheese;

-- 3,000 pounds of breaded jalapeno poppers with cheddar cheese;

-- 500 cases of plain, ranch and pizza flavored chicken mini-snackers;

-- 3,600 four-cheese pizzas;

-- 3,600 supreme pizzas;

-- 4,800 pepperoni pizzas;

-- 40,000 beef meatballs;

-- 27,000 turkey wings;

-- 875 gallons of beef chili;

-- 14,000 pounds of breaded chicken wings;

-- 5,000 pounds of unbreaded, jumbo, hot and spicy Buffalo chicken wings; and

-- 10,500 pounds of potato wedges.
