A soldier from Conway, S.C., is dead after a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq.
U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ronald Phillips Jr., 33, died Thursday, according to the Defense Department.
Cpt. Justin Devantier, a casualty assistance officer with the Army, says Phillips was in a patrol vehicle when a bomb struck the vehicle.
Devantier said Phillips was on his second tour of duty in Iraq.
Phillips was deployed with the 3rd Infantry Division out of Fort Stewart.
Phillips was married and had a 7-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter, all of whom still live in the Conway area.
Phillips’ funeral is scheduled for Friday.
