Benning ranger killed in Afghanistan

FORT BENNING - The Army says a member of a Fort Benning Ranger unit was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

The military says in a release that 27-year-old Capt. Kyle A. Comfort of Jacksonville, Ala., died Saturday in Helmand province of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.

Comfort graduated from Jacksonville State University in 2006 with a degree in criminal justice. He served as a fire support officer and platoon leader with the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment and the 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, both with the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter and his mother.
