Mandatory furloughs for Department of the Army employees at Fort Stewart will begin affecting some services this week. According to Public Affairs Office spokesman Kevin Larson, its office will now close every Friday until September 27.

He said news media with inquiries or coordination requests should contact the 3rd Infantry Division Public Affairs Office on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 271-9914.

Other services closed on Fridays include the following:

ID Card Section

Army Community Services

SFC Paul R. Smith Army Education Center

Vehicle Registration Office

Transportation Office

Central Issue Facility

Resource Management Office

Safety Office

Equal Employment Opportunity Office

Plans, Analysis and Integration Office

1Lt. George P. Hays Library

Services closed on Tuesday:

Pass & Permit Office

Civilian Rifle and Archery Range

Commissary (now closed Mondays and Tuesdays)

Larson said patients are also advised to expect longer delays at Winn Army Community Hospital’s emergency room due to furloughed administrative personnel.

He said soldiers, retirees and family members coming on post should be aware of reduced hours at some gates.

Teachers and other faculty at Brittin, Diamond and Kessler Elementary Schools will be furloughed every Friday, from Aug. 30 through Sept. 27, he said.

He said the Post Exchange, child development centers and fitness centers will operate at normal hours.
