Georgia soldier dies in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense announced Thursday the death of a soldier who was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc. David A. Holmes, 34, of Tennille, died June 26 at Sayed Abad, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 810th Engineer Company, Swainsboro.
