Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield received 138 questions before, during and after the installation hosted its first Facebook town hall meeting Wednesday for soldiers, family members, Army civilians, retirees and veterans.
Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson said the online town hall was a resounding success with at least 100 people actively participating in the hour-long online forum. Other people may have watched the town hall and not joined in the conversation thread, Larson said.
“During town hall itself we had nine questions we didn’t answer during that period,” he said. “We owe every single customer be they soldier, civilian or family member, an answer and we will get them an answer.”
The main topics discussed related to housing, traffic concerns and family programs, Larson said.
The Directorate of Emergency Services, Directorate of Public Works, Housing and Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation received the most questions, according to Fort Stewart public affairs.
“That’s not to say the contributions of the whole Fort Stewart garrison staff weren’t appreciated as well as our tenant units,” he said.
Other participants included AAFES, the commissary, Medvac, Winn Army Community Hospital, Army Community Service, the Equal Employment Opportunity office, the civilian personnel advisory center, Directorate of Human Resources, the garrison safety office and the Religious Service Office represented by Senior Chaplain Col. Warren Kirby.
“We’re very pleased with the turnout,” Larson said. “It was a great pleasure to interact with our customers.”
He said garrison leaders plan to have another Facebook town hall but have not yet set a date.
