A Fort Stewart soldier charged with shooting and killing two fellow soldiers and wounding a third soon will return to the Fort Stewart area from Kuwait.
Spc. Neftaly Platero, assigned to the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, will return stateside following the recent closing of his Article 32 hearing in Iraq, according to Fort Stewart public affairs.
Platero is charged with the Sept. 23, 2010 premeditated murders of Spc. John Carrillo Jr. and Pfc. Gebrah Noonan and the attempted premeditated death of a third soldier while deployed to Fallujah, Iraq.
“Upon his arrival, Spc. Platero will be held in confinement as he awaits the next phase of his proceeding,” Lt. Col. Jeffrey Allen with 3rd ID public affairs said in a news release. “It is expected that he will arrive in the area sometime within this next week.”
The results of the Article 32 hearing are pending, Allen said.  “The hearing closed on Wednesday, March 23, and the investigating officer is now reviewing the information from the hearing in order to make a recommendation to the appointing authority,” he said. “Even though Spc. Platero will be confined in the Coastal Georgia region, jurisdiction in the case still resides with units in Iraq.”
