The Raider Brigade Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial chairwoman Laura Rittenhouse received a $1,000 check from BAE Systems, presented by Mark T. Baker, Fort Stewart/Benning site manager, on April 9 at 1st Heavy Brigade Combat team Headquarters.
“The memorial is to represent the sacrifice of the ones we lost in 1st Brigade,” Rittenhouse said. “Currently we have about 57 soldiers that we have lost and we want to represent those families. The idea for the memorial came from family members wanting to have a place to remember their loved ones, whether it’s 10 or 15 years from now.”
The memorial team has more events planned for fundraising as well.
“We’re going to be doing two golf scrambles in June,” Rittenhouse said. “And we are trying to make that another way for people to sponsor the memorial. The success of the memorial will only be possible if we have the support of people who can give.”
The memorial is scheduled to be finished in August and cost $100,000. Interested donors can contact the Raider Brigade Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial at (845) 596-1331 or (912) 445-0186, and can also e-mail Rittenhouse at laura.rittenhouse@us.army.mil.
