Soldiers with the 3rd Infantry Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Squadron and the 7th U.S. Calvary are getting a little treats and supportfrom home thanks to a Colorado-based chain of do-it-yourself stores.
At its recent annual convention Lakewood-based Handyman Matters recruited the help of all its franchisees to assemble 100 boxes for the troops who are serving on the fronline infantry in Iraq.
The soldiers received packages containing T-shirts, magazines, Gatorade drink mix packets, Slim Jims, Oreo cookies, granola bars, wet wipes and Skittles.
Their current theater of operation is the Forward Operating Base Rustamiyah in southeast Baghdad, Iraq. Col. Tony L. West spoke prior to the box assembly. He is the director of staff for the Headquarters, Texas Air National Guard.
