Two Fort Stewart soldiers deployed in support of Operation New Dawn in Iraq died as a result of non-combat-related incidents earlier this week.
Capt. Wesley J. Hinkley, 36, of Carlisle, Pa., died April 4 in Baghdad, Iraq.  He was assigned to the 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade.
“Capt. Hinkley, a finance officer, joined the Army in April 1998
and arrived at Fort Stewart in July 2009,” Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson said. “He deployed once with the 3rd Infantry Division.”
Spc. Gary L. Nelson III, 20, of Woodstock, Ga., died April 5 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat-related incident.  He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division.
“Spc. Nelson was a unit supply specialist,” Larson said. “He joined the Army in June 2008, and he arrived at Fort Stewart in November 2008. This was his first deployment.”
Both deaths are under investigation, according to Larson.
