The newly established Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame is accepting nominations of Georgia military veterans for induction into the 2013 inaugural class.
The induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame Class of 2013 will be Nov. 22 in Columbus at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 5351 Sidney Simons Blvd. in Columbus.
The Hall of Fame is designed to recognize the significant contributions and sacrifices of Georgian veterans who have honorably served the nation in any of the armed services and who have distinguished themselves through acts of valor, achievement or service.
Banquet tickets are $55 per person or $500 for a 10-person table. Banquet reservations may be made on the GMVHOF website at www.GMVHOF.org. The DoubleTree’s phone number is 706-327-6868.
Additional information about the GMVHOF and nomination packets may be downloaded from the GMVHOF web site. Each nomination packet must be received at PO Box 475, Pine Mountain, GA 31822, no later than Oct. 31 for the 2013 class. Nomination packets received after Oct. 31 automatically will be considered for the 2014 class.
Each nominee will be evaluated on a merit system by an independent selection committee. If a nominated veteran is not selected on the first attempt, that veteran’s packet will be considered for the following two years.
There are three categories for possible nomination: valor, achievement or service. The valor category is based on heroic action in combat. The achievement category is for those veterans who have made a significant contribution to the well-being of the military in general. The service category is for a veteran who has continued to serve the community, state or nation in an exemplary manner after leaving the military.
In accordance with the bylaws of the GMVHOF, a Georgia military veteran is a veteran who was born in Georgia, or initially entered the military in Georgia, or has lived in Georgia for at least 10 years. Posthumous veterans’ nominations also will be accepted.
Donations may be mailed to Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame, PO Box 475, Pine Mountain, GA 31822.
