Seven people are without a home after a fire Wednesday afternoon in Gumbranch, authorities say.

The fire in a mobile home in the 5700 block of Highway 196 West across from Todd Lane was reported about 2:30 p.m., according to Liberty County Fire Chief Brian Darby.

When firefighters arrived they encountered heavy smoke bellowing from a mobile home. When they entered the home they encountered intense flames in the bedroom area which began to rapidly spread to the rest of the residence.

Darby said it took about 26 minutes to bring the fire completely under control.

The occupants were able to make out of the residence safely and a few had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Units from Walthourville’s station 16 provided mutual aid support to Liberty County Fire Services, Station 15.

The cause of the fire is undetermined
