Response rates then and now

2010 Liberty County Census Coordinator Kathy Poole offered a comparison of Census mail-in response rates for 2000 and 2010:

National                      72 percent               72 percent
Georgia                      70 percent                69 percent
Liberty County           71 percent                59 percent
Hinesville                   69 percent                61 percent
Riceboro                    82 percent                63 percent
Flemington                78 percent                53 percent
Midway                     78 percent                 56 percent
Gum Branch              75 percent                 44 percent

The promise of more federal dollars and the ability to attract industry hinge on an accurate census count, Liberty County leaders said. “It is estimated that each person counted results in federal allocations to the State of Georgia and the local governments in the amount of $1,099 yearly,” 2010 Liberty County Census Coordinator Kathy Poole said.
