More shots, same area

Six days after a quiet Friday night ended in a frenzy of flying bullets in the Pointe South and Summerwind Condos area, an incident report filed at the Hinesville Police Department says there may have been a second, similar shooting Thursday morning.
HPD Officer Ivan Saez responded to an anonymous 911 call of shots being fired in the same area at 4:15 a.m. The investigating officer, along with a back up unit, reportedly searched the area for evidence and Saez said he found a 40-caliber casing near 232 Pointe South Drive.
The search stretched passed daybreak and officers reported finding a total of six more 40-caliber casings along the same stretch of road and three 9mm casings in a cul-de-sac off Pointe South Drive.
According to the report, a bystander, who wished to remain anonymous, told officers he saw a black SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, leave the area shortly after the shootings.
On April 18, the area of Brett Drive, Pointe South, Eunice Drive and Folker Road was the site of chaos as multiple shots were reported. Shortly after 9 p.m., police converged into the neighborhood after receiving calls reporting as many as 20 shots being fired.
According to Hinesville Det. Star Cpl. Tracey Howard, police gathered shell casings and projectiles and got tips over several days in what he calls an ongoing investigation.
While Howard said the investigation might prove the shooting is a dispute between individuals he has not ruled out the possibility it could be gang related.
Howard said his concern was for the safety of the people in the area.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is encouraged to call the Hinesville Detective Division at 368-8215.
