Dozens were arrested Saturday night in the Gum Branch area of Liberty County and charged with drag racing according to Liberty County Deputy, Dennis Abbgy.
Abbgy said the drivers of the vehicles had blocked off a portion of Hodges Road and used the quiet road as a racetrack. When deputies arrived Abbgy said they sealed off both entrances of the road and began detaining numerous spectators who were later released and arrested 13 individuals who were drag racing or attempted to flee the area.
10 are military members assigned to Fort Stewart and will have to be released to the military police.
Twelve vehicles were towed from the scene as a line tow trucks placed the cars on flatbeds. Abbgy said they are in the process of sorting out the charges and expects many of those arrested to face drag racing charges which is a misdemeanor.
