The Liberty County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Color People will have its annual Freedom Fund Awards Gala at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Club Stewart.
Branch President Liston Singletary III said the event will be an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the achievements of the organization since it was founded.
“This is a sacred moment,” he said. “The NAACP has done monumental work within the U.S. and abroad. All have benefited from the great work that has been done and we just want to share this moment with everyone.”
The theme for this year’s fundraiser will be “NAACP: 100 Years of Bold Dreams-Big Victories.”
“We will be highlighting the founders of the NAACP, such as Mary White Ovington, a white American,” said Renea’ Camper, Liberty County’s NAACP publicity chairwoman. “She was the one who was truly responsible for the call to action to try and get change for African-Americans in the country.”
The keynote speaker will be Edward O. Dubose, Georgia State Conference of the NAACP president.
Tickets are $50 and will include a reception, dinner and entertainment.
Proceeds will go to the NAACP as members work to guarantee political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all people, and to assist in the elimination of racism and discrimination.
