Nathan Wallace named 2019 Atlanta Youth Poet Laureate

Nathan R. Wallace, a Hinesville native and 2017 graduate of Bradwell Institute is the recent winner of the Atlanta Youth Poet Laureate contest. Out of numerous entries each contestant was required to submit five original poetry pieces. Of them five were chosen to compete in a poetry slam contest. As the first place contest winner Nathan is now the 2019 Atlanta Youth Poet Laureate. With this win he receives a book deal, book tour and will be featured in the national anthology. 

Nathan was also the first place winner of the Georgia State University Cupsi (College Union Poetry Slam Invitational) tryouts and on the Georgia State team that competed and won the New South Poetry Slam competing against Agnes Scott College, University of Georgia, and UNC Chapel Hill.

Nathan credits his accomplishment as a God given gift paired with the hard work and performing experience instilled in him through his involvement at Bradwell Institute and his two years in the Poetry Out Loud competition but also aided by the careful guiding hand of Atlanta Word Works. At Bradwell he won numerous public speaking, Poetry Out Loud and oratorical awards on the local, region and state level. He was also a member of the Interact Club, FBLA, selected member of Young Adult Leaders of Liberty, selected member of Liberty County’s 12 Shining Seniors and a published poet.

A sophomore at Georgia State University, Nathan is a history major with plans to enter law school. His leadership skills are evident on the collegiate level as he serves as a Resident Assistant and student organization Marketing Director of Peerless Perfexion. His was also a 2018 Team Atlanta Braves New Voices Semi-finalist, Spring 2018 National Society of Leadership and Success Member and is presently a teaching artist with Vox Teen Communications, Atlanta. He has been a facilitator in workshops with the Atlanta Hawks and at Georgia Public Broad Casting.

His parents are Rev. Larry Wallace and Lucinda Johnson-Wallace.  He is a member of Baconton Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Hermon Scott, Pastor.
