Hinesville mayor Jim Thomas and the Chamber of Commerce board of directors joined Dr. Roger Myers and his staff in a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 10 for the opening of the city's newest oral surgery dental office.
Myers, a Georgia native, worked in Statesboro for a year and a half and is looking forward to being the office's sole practitioner.
"Now you can implement a lot of the things you've always imagined about taking care of patients," he said. "It gives you the latitude to do things you know are right, the things you know patients appreciate."
The office performs procedures in general extractions, facial trauma, dental implants, TMJ, sleep apnea and other areas related to oral surgery.
Mayor Thomas called the opening a "very good addition to the city."
"It is something that we sorely need," Thomas said. "And (we) hope the very best of luck to Dr. Myers."
It was the county's promise for continued expansion that attracted Myers to Hinesville.
"This is an up and growing area," he said. "A lot of businesses are currently being constructed in the area and it has room for growth."
"We prayed about it a lot, also," Myers added. "We honestly feel this is the right place for us."
Since opening for appointments a few weeks ago, the office has enjoyed referrals from local dentists.
"We have a philosophy that we want patients to feel like they're at home when they come in," Myers said. "We really try to cater to the patients' needs."
The office includes three surgical suites, two recovery rooms and a panoramic X-ray machine.
Myers and his staff use digital radiography, allowing them to operate their x-rays "paperless."
