When Liberty countians attend their annual countywide planning workshop March 26-28 this year, they will find the focus on the county's service delivery strategy and updating Liberty's comprehensive plan.
"As in the past, this year's workshop promises to be both challenging and productive," County Administrator Joey Brown said. "With the recent announcement of an expected tremendous increase in population for our community, we must diligently focus on how we plan to deliver services in the most efficient way possible.
"Please come prepared to roll up your sleeves, put on your thinking caps, and develop a plan to provide key services in this manner."
County Commission Chairman John McIver said, "This year's workshop is critical to the county as whole. We have to plan which government entity will provide which services and how it will be paid for.
"There must be no confusion. Our strategy will be incorporated into the comprehensive plan. We want to provide the highest quality service at the lowest cost to the taxpayer."
Sonny Timmerman, director of the Liberty Consolidated Planning Commission, has listed areas of special attention for the workshop:
__Infrastructure and facilities
• Water and sewer
• Transportation
• Parks and recreation
__Public heath, education and protection
• Fire
• Police
• Sanitation
• Hospital and health care
• Education.
Focus groups will discuss each of these areas and report their findings to the entire workshop.
The LCPC and the state Department of Community Affairs will lead this year's session.
One speaker will be DCA's Adrienne Wood, project manager for the Coastal Comprehensive Plan. Part of that plan's development was a survey in which most respondents indicated that they preferred that the Georgia coast remain rural and undeveloped.
The conference starts at noon on March 26 at the King and Prince Resort on St. Simons Island.
