On-post middle school gets OK

The Liberty County School Board, Tuesday, voted to proceed with construction of a middle school on Fort Stewart.

Although the school will be located on post, the facility will be part of the Liberty County School System and will host students from the county and Fort Stewart.

According to LCSS Superintendent Judy Scherer, the school is projected to open in the fall of 2010.

"We have more than enough numbers (of students) to justify it," Scherer said.

Scherer said the school is necessary because of the impending growth of Fort Stewart/Liberty County.

In fact, Scherer said the community is growing so much, a second middle school may also be needed.

The action was taken at the BoE's regular December meeting Tuesday night.
