Commerical food shrimp lottery set

Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials said the commercial food shrimp cast net lottery will be conducted June 4.
To be eligible, individuals must apply in person at the Coastal Resources Division Regional Headquarters in Brunswick. Applications will be accepted from April 2 to May 1. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Successful lottery license recipients will be notified via certified mail during the first week of June. Recipients must purchase the license by July 2. The license fee is $250 for residents and $2,500 for non-residents plust he vessel license.
A controlled access system for the commercial food shrimp cast net fishery has been in effect since 1998. The number of licenses is capped at 200. Only 82 licenses were sold in 2006.
Current license holders are reminded to renew their license by May 31. If the license is not renewed, it will revert to the state for issuance through the lottery.
