ATLANTA —A free app highlighting Georgia’s State Parks and Wildlife Resources was recently ranked No. 34 in downloads on iTunes Apple store.  
The Georgia DNR Pocket Ranger mobile app offers advanced interactive GPS and GIS map technology for tracking trails, marking waypoints and locating landmarks.
The Georgia DNR Pocket Ranger app is available on iTunes, Android Market and PocketRanger.com.  It also is formatted as a mobile website for ease of use for Blackberry users.
App users are able to locate friends within parks using the friend finder feature. The alert feature supplies GPS coordinates to designated contacts in case of an emergency. Guests can also cache park maps in advance to ensure that navigation remains possible in the event of lost mobile reception.
The app also has weather forecasts, a calendar of events and quick access to property rules and regulations.
