Two local swimmers participated in a meet at the Chatham County Aquatic Center on Feb. 26-28. Sandra Scott and McKaylin Darsey swam in the 11-12 age group.

On the first day of the meet, Scott swam in the 200 individual medley and finished with a time of 2:33.15 — a 2.5 second drop. Next, she swam the 200 backstroke in 2:39.35 — a .5 second drop.

Darsey began the meet with the 200 backstroke and finished in 2:33.94 — a .5 second time drop. She swam the 1000 freestyle in 12:49.84 — a 3 second time drop.

Both girls overcame illness the week of the meet. Scott stayed out of the water for three days with an ear infection and Darsey was under the weather until the day of the meet.

On the second day of the meet, Scott swam the 200 breaststroke in 3:01.05 — a .5 second improvement. Next, she swam the 50 fly in 31.63. Scott finished the day by swimming the 400 IM in 5:33.78 — an 8 second time drop.

On the meet’s final day, Scott finished with her best event, the 200 butterfly, which she completed in 2:54.41 — a 6 second time drop. She took 41st place in a field of 62 swimmers.

Darsey will swim in her first age group sectional competition in Charlotte, N.C., on March 11-14. She will compete in the 1650 free, which is a mile. She is currently ranked 19th in Georgia.
