Okefenokee Swamp Run
Saturday, March 21, 2015, 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Laura S. Walker State Park - Waycross
Registration for the 38th annual Okefenokee Swamp Run will be held at group shelter #2 prior to the start of the race. All ages are welcome to participate. Proceeds are donated to the YMCA, Easter Seals, and other charitable organizations. This event is sponsored by the Okefenokee Track and Cycling Club. $5 parking. 912-282-0703.

Scottish Heritage Days
March 21, 22 and 23, 2015
Fort King George Historic Site - Darien
All ages will enjoy this showcase of Georgia’s Scottish and colonial history, with weapon demonstrations and cannon firings, re-enactors, blacksmithing, weaving, period cooking and music, and fort tours. Friday is Student Day. A battle reenactment will be 2 p.m. Saturday. A traditional Scottish "Kirkin of the Tartans" will be 11 a.m. Sunday. $4.50-$7.50 912-437-4770.

Golf Tournament

Laura S. Walker State Park - Waycross
Charity golf tournament sponsored by the Friends of Laura S. Walker State Park to raise funds to benefit the park and golf course. Proceeds will be used to maintain, repair, and improve the park and golf course. Native American Heritage Day at Etowah
Saturday, March 14, 2015, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site - Cartersville
Etowah will be hosting a lecture on historic Creek and Cherokee cultures in Georgia. Come learn about how our modern society still carries the past on its shoulders. Soldier's Life

Pickett's Mill Battlefield Historic Site - Dallas

Hard Labor Creek State Park - Rutledge
Lake Rutledge is a great place to enjoy the night sky. Join this ranger-led tour of the lake and enjoy night sounds, star-gazing, and a relaxing time on the water. Atlanta Audubon Beginners Bird Walk

Hard Labor Creek State Park - Rutledge
This field trip is designed for anyone interested in learning more about birds, habitats critical to some species, and organizations like the Audubon Society which are dedicated to bird conservation. Hills of Iron and Iron Pour
Saturday, March 21, 2015, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Red Top Mountain State Park - Acworth
The iron industry was one of Georgia's first businesses long before the Civil War. Take guided wagon ride tours of the historic Iron Hill section in the morning. Later that evening, watch molten iron pour from an operating blast furnace at 2800 degrees Fahrenheit. A limited number of scratch block molds will be for purchase so you can make your own keepsake. $5 parking. 770-975-0055.

Candlelight Hike to the Mill

Sweetwater Creek State Park - Lithia Springs
This mile-long guided night hike is easy to moderately difficult and goes down to the Civil War era textile mill ruins of New Manchester alongside the beautiful rapids of Sweetwater Creek. Geology Day

Providence Canyon State Park - Lumpkin
Interpretive Ranger Trena Evans will lead visitors into the canyons and back in time to discover the geological history of the canyons. The floors of the canyons are often wet and muddy, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear. Bring water and your camera. $5 plus $5 parking. 229-838-4706.

Atlanta Audubon Society Bird Walk

Fort Yargo State Park - Winder
Fort Yargo has some great habitat, including marshland, mixed hardwood Forest, and an expansive open lake. We will look for a variety of birds like woodpeckers, warblers, and wading birds.
