Rec department increasing pavilion rent

Fees for renting pavilions at Liberty County parks will increase July 1 after a vote by the county commission at its last meeting.
The new deposit and rental fees for Stafford Pavilion, located at Liberty Independent Troop Park, are $50 for a half-day and $100 for a full day.  At other pavilions the deposit and rental fees will be $25 for a half-day and $50 for a full day.
Several pavilions offer kitchen facilities, restrooms and picnic areas. While Stafford Pavilion does not yet have a full kitchen facility for users, it is the pavilion residents rent most often, and plans are under way to install a kitchen. Liberty County Recreation Department Director Jimmy Martin said the fee increases will ensure pavilion users clean the areas they use, making way for others who rent the facilities on the same day.
“On average, we have about four rentals per weekend at Stafford, with a couple more per week,” Martin said. That works out to around 25 per month. For the other facilities, the department may rent as many as 15 per month.
Interested residents can review fees and facilities online at www.lcrd.net, but Martin said reservations must be made in person at the office and the deposit must be paid at the time of the reservation.
Martin added that residents should be aware of the county’s recently modified no-smoking ordinance,  which includes the pavilions.
