Walk into the New Year

Serenity: The New Year has arrived and, for many, health and fitness resolutions top the list of things to accomplish in 2008. One of the quickest and easiest ways to kick off a fitness program is to get out and walk. Liberty County offers some of the most pristine and scenic areas for such activities. One of those scenic fitness trails is at James Brown Park. Walking along the tree-lined walkway, it is easy to forget you are doing something healthy for yourself both physically and mentally. During a recent walk, several species of birds lined the trees, including a redheaded woodpecker knocking away at the side of a tree. Squirrels leaped from tree to tree in playful pursuit of each other and the tree canopy provided just enough sunshine to warm up the cold morning. Start the New Year right and get out and walk.
