Liberty County parent April Jones has started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her children, and other students, to attend a national mathematics competition in Birmingham, Ala., on May 11.
“My children attend Joseph Martin Elementary School in Hinesville, and they, along with many of their peers have worked hard all year as part of the Mathfest group, to win challenging mathematics competitions against other students in their age groups. Thousands of students across the country have participated and we are so proud to announce that 18 students in grades 3 through 5 from Joseph Martin Elementary have advanced through Divisional, Regional and State competitions to be eligible to compete in the Mathfest National Championship,” Jones wrote in an email.
The fundraising goal is $6,500, the cost to transport, house and feed students for the championship event.
