A car struck and broke a power pole at the intersection of E.B. Cooper Highway and Holmestown Road at 1:52 p.m. today.

The impact snapped the power pole bringing down utility lines causing power outages to approximately 43 Coastal Electric Cooperative members

According to Mark Bolton, Vice President of Communications, Marketing and Economic Development at Coastal Electric, police and emergency crews were quickly on the scene.

Bolton said the driver was not seriously hurt. He said Coastal Electric line crews consisting of Billy Kirk, James Thomas, Jake Horton, Clint Durrence, Syntel West, Melvin Anderson, Brandon Harpe and Curtis Miller are currently working on replacing the damaged power pole and restoring electricity.

“This is going to take a while,” Bolton said.
