Pembroke Police put an end to a high-speed chase that began Tuesday night on Fort Stewart after a motorcycle driver fled from military police.
According to Pembroke Police Chief Mark Crowe, Cody Alexander French, 18, was arrested in Pembroke after officers chased him through the city on his blue Suzuki motorcycle and on foot.
He was charged by Pembroke police with speeding over 100 mph and fleeing and attempting to elude police, Crowe said.
Crowe said Fort Stewart police began chasing French on Highway 119 North around 9 p.m.
Pembroke officers waited on French at the Fort Stewart boundary gate on Highway 119 and followed him into the city, where he was traveling in excess of 100 mph, Crowe said. French then made his way to Highway 67, where officers lost sight of him.
“Then we got a call from a resident somewhere around the (Express Packaging Inc.) box plant on (Highway) 67 North that the subject had parked the motorcycle behind the building and took off running in the woods,” Crowe said.
He said officers found the motorcycle and shortly thereafter found French hiding in the woods near the box plant.
French was turned over to Fort Stewart Military Police.
