16-year-old gets life in prison for murder

SAVANNAH — A 16-year-old has pleaded guilty to felony murder and armed robbery charges in Savannah and has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/u7hIql ) Judge Jouhn E. Morse Jr. sentenced Trevonte Edwards on Wednesday in the Jan. 8 slaying of John Green.

Edwards also pleaded guilty in Chatham County Superior Court to the Jan. 7 armed robbery of Todd Nelson and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, consecutive with the life term.

Morse also sentenced Edwards to 10-year terms on two more armed robberies but ordered them served currently with the other sentences.

Green, a 78-year-old grandfather, was shot in the chest outside a convenience store where he had gone to buy a loaf of bread.

Charges against two others in the case remain pending.
