STATESBORO — Two young men attending a graduation party Saturday night left the fun long enough to find themselves some trouble.
One offender, George Robert Collins, 21, of Tee Pee Way, reportedly stole a Case highboy, a piece of agricultural equipment used to spray crops, from a field near the intersection of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway and Country Club Road, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.
Brenton Garrick, 19, of Lanier Drive, also was arrested in connection with the incident.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the field around 6:30 a.m. Sunday for a damage-to-property call, he said. The complainant reported someone stole the highboy, “crashed it into a power pole which snapped in half, and then abandoned the damaged piece of equipment.”
Damage to the highboy was estimated at $70,000, Anderson said.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Tracy Miller and Investigator Dusty Williams identified the suspects and learned they “were participants in a nearby graduation party and had left the party for a period of time during which the incident occurred,” he said.
Garrick was arrested on charges of criminal trespass, while Collins was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal damage to property, one count of felony theft by taking and two counts of criminal trespass.
Both were being held in the Bulloch County Jail awaiting bond hearings, Anderson said.
