Hinesville man was killed while attempting to cross the street Saturday night.
According to Hinesville Police Traffic Accident Investigator Richard Boucher, the accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Johnny Riles, 59, of Hinesville, was attempting to cross E.G. Miles Parkway after leaving a local store. Stephanie Belue, 37, of Ludowici, was returning to Long County after buying dinner from a restaurant. Boucher said Belue was traveling west when she reportedly struck Riles with her 2009 Jeep Patriot, flinging him an estimated 20 feet from the point of impact.
EMS personnel on scene tried to revive Riles. He later was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville, where he was pronounced dead.
Boucher said speed was not a factor in the accident, and no charges have been filed.
